Common questions
What people ask before they book.
Everything you might want to know before booking a Gas Safe engineer.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes — Sterling is Gas Safe registered, so all gas and boiler work is carried out legally and safely by a qualified engineer. You're welcome to ask to see the registration card on any visit.
How quickly can you come out?
For genuine emergencies — no heating or hot water, a burst pipe, a leak you can't stop — I prioritise the work and aim to reach you the same day across Portsmouth and the South Coast. Planned work is usually quoted within 24 hours and booked shortly after.
Do you give written quotes?
Yes — for anything beyond a small repair you'll get a clear, itemised written quote before any work starts, so you know exactly what you're paying for and what's included. No deposits, no surprises.
Are you insured?
Yes — Sterling is fully insured. I'm happy to provide proof of cover to you, your insurer or your letting agent on request.
What makes and brands do you fit?
I fit leading boiler brands such as Worcester Bosch, Vaillant and Ideal, and recommend the right unit for your home and budget rather than the one that suits me. You're never over-sold.
Will you leave everything clean and tidy?
Always. A tidy, respectful finish is part of the job — dust sheets down, everything cleaned up when I'm done, and all old parts and packaging taken away with me.
